On Saturday 18th March please be aware that Willows will be closed for fishery management activities to take place. During this the committee will be implementing work previously published in the management plan. Members are welcome to be present (of course bring your ID and permit) but it may be necessary to establish a safe working area for the team and contractor.
Its time to communicate an update about Rawlings Retreat, because things have been changing. Firstly Warwicks water is open as a crucian only fishery. Please go and give it a try with your light tackle and see if you can catch the shy species. Please let us know what you catch. There are fish refuges in each corner about a pole length out, and the lilies provide good cover too. The tapes are there to deter cromorants but you won't need to cast far.
Also Alders is fishing well since the additional bream and the weeds have been reduced by the blue dye. People are catching tench, bream, and sometimes a chub. Its also got lots of perch. Now that the rafts and chicken wire is gone you can cast right into the middle shallows too. One again please let us know how you get on.
The winner of the pike match series for 2016 has been confirmed, and the winner is Kevin Richardson. He was equal on points with second placed Ryan Davies, both on 65 points and with a match win each, but won it by having the largest fish between them. He also bags the Buckingham Pike Cup and the Ben Smith Trophy. This year Enborne canal was the most productive venue, with fish up to 15lb caught. Only a small band of hardy snapper hunters take part in the pike series, why not make a point of trying it next year.
Following the AGM, the new membership form is now available for download on this site, and the new prices for this year have been published. As previously announced the club no longer requires a sponsor for Associate memberships. This makes it easier to join if you are outside Newbury. The number will still be capped and waitlisted if the cap is reached, and Associates are still bound by the same rules as for all members.
Renewing members will be able to collect their permits from Bellwood on the first two Saturdays in June, or from the tackle shop as usual from June.
There is now a new gate at the bottom of Sandpit Lane from the A4 access to Speen Moors, which has a NAA padlock in the chain. If you are used to fishing Speen Moors and not taking you key please be aware you will need it from now on. Please remember to lock it behind you.
