Over 60's match 11th October 2017

The penultimate Over 60s match of this year was held at Avington on Wed 11 Oct. A warm windy day on E section of the Canal, but the fish were biting and the usual skimmers, roach and perch all played their part. With the leaders now dropping points from previous results, Brian Cripps can only score 4 more points, and Steve Thame can score 8 and either could win the series. With 6 points available Dave Smith could finish equal first but that must be an outside bet. The match result was:

Henry Sadler 4-8-0

Brian Pallett 4-6-0

Les Durnford 4-3-8

Over 60's match 4th October 2017

The Over 60's match took place on Enborne Canal downstream on 4 Oct. This match was fished in the bottom end of Enborne Canal and the anglers had to put up with people traffic. But this is where the fish are and Mervyn drew the same peg that won the Help for Heroes match. The Perch were still there and the match winner helped himself.   Henry Sadler made use of the end peg with a good mixed bag that kept him busy all day. With 2 more matches to go the title of Over 60's champion is up for grabs. The result was:

Mervyn Burrows 9-12-0

Henry Sadler 7-9-0

Dave Smith 3-3-0

Help for Heroes match 17th September 2017

The annual Help for Heroes match took place on Enborne Canal on 17 Sep. The top 3 were Bill Bowsher 11-4-0,  Dave Smith 9-8-0 which included a Perch of 2-14-0 and  Dave Chandler 7-10-0.   Those weights were caught below Guyers lock.   The Section winners above the lock were Stuart Fleming from Shipston on permanent peg 3 with 5-3-0;  Adam Durnford peg 9 with 1-9-0;  Tony Franklin on peg 14 with 6-8-0 and Brian Cripps peg 22 with 7-4-0.   We were well looked after by the Lamb pub who provided breakfast and a hot meal afterwards.   The 26 anglers raised £600 for Help for Heroes with a large part of that coming from the sale of raffle tickets.   The raffle was well supported by Thatcham Angling Centre and Tadley Angling Centre and some club members who generously donated prizes.
