Waterways

The club has many miles of waterway on the Kennet and Avon Navigation. Some of this is effectively still water and some of it is flowing water. Because of this the variety of fishing is very wide, and the almost all coarse species are present in our waterways.

There is Avington in the west, which is still water with good access to the waterside.

Nearer to town there is more still water in the Enborne stretch, which continues as flowing water into the edge of Newbury itself.

Downstream of Newbury we have the Town stretch, which is still water.

Further east there is Hambridge which is still water to Ham Lock, then flowing water towards Widmead, with a final stretch of still water to Widmead Lock

Whichever stretch appeals to you, there will be plenty of choice for the whole year. Check the menus here for more details on each section.

Rivers

The range of river angling on offer to members will cover just about everything you could want. the size of water ranges from small streams on Speen Moors to wider stretches at Aldermaston. There is fast water, slow water and in some places weirs and white water. Some parts are natural river Kennet, and some are part of the waterway, those being listed in the "Waterways" part of this site. Shallow stretches full of roach, dace and gudgeon, to slower reaches with bream and tench. Not to forget the specimens of chub, barbel, pike and perch.

Have a look at the menu listing for each water, and make your choice!

By their nature the rivers are less suitable for disabled anglers, and more care should be taken near fast flowing water. Some of the rivers need the padlock key, available from Thatcham Angling in return for a deposit.

Fisheries

In this section you will find information about all the fisheries that the Newbury AA provides. There is something for all anglers here, young or old, keen or occasional, for pleasure or for specimens. If you fished every day you could not fish all the pegs in a year.

Around Newbury we are blessed with the river Kennet, the Kennet and Avon Navigation and many former gravel pits, giving a fantastic range to choose from.

The club also has an exchange ticket arrangement with the Civil Service AS, meaning that you can fish their waters all over the country, but they have some great river Kennet fishing too.
